Singapore weather month by month: what to pack and when it rains most

Singapore does not have seasons the way Mexico does, but it does have patterns. Knowing when it rains most and what clothing helps saves a badly packed suitcase.

Updated Sep 24, 2026

Singapore sits almost exactly on the equator, so it does not have the four seasons you are used to in Mexico. Temperature stays high and even almost all year. What does change, and by quite a bit, is how much it rains.

The two monsoon seasons

According to the Meteorological Service Singapore, there are two monsoon seasons. The northeast monsoon runs from December to early March, with cloudy skies and frequent afternoon showers in December and January. Climatologically, December is usually one of the rainiest months. The southwest monsoon runs from June to September, with more scattered showers, typically between late morning and early afternoon.

Looking for the driest month

February is usually one of the least rainy months of the year, though "dry" in Singapore still means the occasional downpour. Never stop carrying a light rain jacket.

Temperature barely changes, but a little bit does

Climatologically, the highest daytime temperatures usually happen in April, and the warmest nights arrive in May and June. December and January bring the slightly cooler stretch of the year, while March through June feels a touch warmer than the rest. The gap between the "coldest" and "hottest" month is only a couple of degrees. Do not expect anything resembling winter.

What clothing works

The suitcase that works all year

  • Light, breathable clothing (cotton or technical fabrics) over anything thick; the heat and humidity do not let up.
  • A light rain jacket or a foldable umbrella in your bag at all times, even in the "dry season".
  • At least one light jacket or sweater for indoors: aircon in offices, malls and cinemas is often set quite cold.
  • Shoes that dry quickly: sudden rain is a daily occurrence, not an exception.
  • Very little to no winter clothing: save it for trips outside Singapore, not for the local weather.

How to plan around the rain

The myENV app shows real-time rain radar, not just the day's forecast. It is the most useful tool for deciding whether to walk out now or wait fifteen minutes. Worth checking before outdoor activities, not only once it has already started raining.

Dress for heat all year, carry something for rain all year, and save the warm clothing for when you leave Singapore.
