Nightlife in Singapore: from quiet bars to clubs
Singapore goes out at night, with stricter hours and alcohol rules than Mexico.
Updated Sep 24, 2026
Nightlife in Singapore is not an impromptu party that runs until sunrise. It has clearer hours and rules, but there is still plenty to do on a weeknight or a weekend.
Legal age and hours
The legal age to supply alcohol in Singapore is 18, according to the MHA's liquor control page. Most bars close around 1am on weekdays and 2am on weekends; clubs typically run until 3 or 4am on Friday and Saturday nights. These are typical industry hours, not a uniform legal closing time for every venue.
The rule that surprises people most: no drinking on the street after a certain hour
Drinking alcohol in public spaces is banned nationwide from 10:30pm to 7am, and during those hours retail shops also cannot sell takeaway alcohol. Drinking in public during that window carries a fine from the first offence, rising considerably for repeat offences. Details are on the MHA Liquor Control page.
Liquor control zones
Little India and Geylang are "Liquor Control Zones": there the public-drinking ban extends from Saturday 7am to Monday 7am (on top of the citywide overnight window), and penalties are 1.5 times higher. Check the exact schedule on the MHA site if your plans take you there.
Where to go depending on the plan
Areas by type of night
- Clarke Quay: the most touristy and crowded area, good for large groups and first outings.
- Club Street and Ann Siang Hill: quieter, cocktail-focused bars, good for a conversation without shouting.
- Holland Village: relaxed atmosphere, a mix of bars and restaurants, popular with foreign residents.
- Marina Bay: rooftop bars with a view, higher prices, good for a special occasion.
